13th International Arquine Contest
The proposed project was asked to modify its surroundings through a profound social change. Aware that a decline in law and order is first and foremost a social problem before an architectural one, the design looked to create a local identity that would represent the factory working class, whom are the basis of the economy and characters of the region.
An industrial ambiance attained through materials, processes, shapes, colors and sounds that easily communicate with the users who are familiar with factory environments. This represents their aesthetic language and at the same time reflects the simple and straightforward character of the region.
Ideally it is hoped the people of Juarez will find a mirror effect within the space. It tries to go beyond accomplishing the architectural brief o reflect a culture, create a connection with local identity, become a sense of pride in an industrial community, and finally, accomplish the reestablishment of law and order through mutual protection within the community itself.
Conceived through the contemplation of the duality protection/captivity, it is decided to have a sensory approach of the project between exterior and interior allowing a clear interpretation of the program’s functionality. Offering monumental safety, the space is dedicated to offering an alternative of progress and specialization to Ciudad Juarez.
